Indy Democratic Mayoral candidate Joe Hogsett says he wants to build on incumbent Mayor Greg Ballard’s efforts when it comes to addressing abandoned and vacant housing.

Hogsett unveiled his proposal today in front of an abandoned home on the near west side.

Hogsett’s plans call for a full inventory of abandoned homes, developing a comprehensive neighborhood improvement plan and a quality of life plan for each neighborhood.

Hogsett admitted that the process would take time due to the legal issues surrounding abandoned homes.

There are approximately 8,000-10,0000 abandoned and vacant homes in Indianapolis.

You can hear Hogsett’s comments in the Leon-Tailored Audio  above. It runs approximately 14 minutes.
