A familiar statewide candidate is now aiming for Washington.
Destiny Wells has officially filed to run for Congress in Indiana’s 7th Congressional District, setting up what could become the most consequential Democratic primary challenge to Rep. Andre Carson in years.
Wells is not new to Indiana politics. She previously ran for statewide office, seeking both Secretary of State and Attorney General, positioning herself as a reform-minded candidate focused on government accountability and voting rights. Those campaigns were unsuccessful, but they gave her statewide name recognition, experience running a race, and a network of political supporters that could prove useful in a congressional bid.
Despite that background, little is known so far about the shape of her CD-7 campaign. There has been no formal rollout, major endorsements, or detailed policy platform. It remains unclear how aggressively she intends to challenge Carson, who has held the seat since 2008 after succeeding his grandmother, the late Julia Carson.
