TERRE HAUTE — Audio obtained by Indy Politics captures conversations between SD 38 candidate Alexandra Wilson and senior political figures tied to President Donald Trump, including White House Political Director Matt Brasseaux, Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair, and allied conservative groups, offering a rare look at efforts to shape the race before the filing deadline.

The recordings document direct outreach from White House political staff and outside conservative operatives as they discussed the dynamics of the Republican primary, the risks of a three-way contest, and possible alternatives should Wilson choose not to continue her candidacy.

In one conversation, a Trump-aligned operative states that the goal was to reduce the contest to “a two man race.”

The audio also includes discussion about concerns that two candidates with the same last name on the ballot could split votes and potentially benefit incumbent Sen. Greg Goode.

At several points, the conversations turn to whether there might be another avenue for Wilson to serve, including references to positions within the administration, boards, commissions, or other public roles.

In later portions of the recordings, the discussion shifts to the realities of campaign politics, including fundraising, outside spending, and the likelihood of opposition research and negative advertising.

The recordings provide a detailed look at how national political actors can become involved in a local legislative race and the considerations that can shape candidate decisions in the final hours before a filing deadline.

Indy Politics is publishing the audio so readers and voters can hear the conversations in full and evaluate the context and tone for themselves.
