Although Indiana’s May primary is still a couple of months away, it looks like former Vice-President Joe Biden is benefitting from Pete Buttigieg’s decision to drop out of the Presidential race.
According to statistician Nate Silver of the 538 blog, prior to Buttigieg’s exit, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was poised to win the Indiana primary now it’s Biden.
Prior to the South Carolina primary, Silver ranked the Indiana primary in the following order…
- Bernie Sanders – 34%
- Joe Biden – 28%;
- Pete Buttigieg – 17%
- Mike Bloomberg – 13%
- Elizabeth Warren – 4%.
After Buttigieg’s exit, the rankings changed…
- Joe Biden – 36%
- Bernie Sanders – 27%
- Mike Bloomberg – 13%
- Elizabeth Warren – 6%.
Sliver also says, based on his analysis, that Biden is expected to receive an average of 36 of Indiana’s 82 pledged delegates while Sanders is projected to win 25 of them.
We will update this analysis later this week after Super Tuesday.
