Cyndi Carrasco is taking another bite at the political apple.

Carrasco has filed to run in Senate District 36, left vacant by the recent death of Jack Sandlin.

A caucus of Republican precinct committeemen is scheduled to elect a Senator to fulfil the remainder of the term on October 18th.

“I join countless Hoosiers in mourning the passing of our friend, Senator Jack Sandlin, and I offer my prayers on behalf of his wonderful wife, Lydia, his daughter, Carrie, and his grandchildren,” said Carrasco. “Jack was a devoted public servant who dedicated his life and career to our community and touched countless lives, and we are all better for having known him. Jack was one of my first and most loyal supporters in my recent run for Marion County Prosecutor, and I will never be able to thank him enough for his encouragement and wisdom. While filing to run for the State Senate occurs with a heavy heart and under tragic circumstances, I do so with a deep commitment to honoring Senator Sandlin’s legacy if blessed with the opportunity to serve.”

Cyndi Carrasco was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, to Mexican immigrant parents, and came to Indiana to attend Indiana University McKinney School of Law. She currently serves as Vice President and General Counsel at The University of Indianapolis, where she also oversees the University’s police department. She previously served as Deputy General Counsel and Ethics Officer in the Indiana Governor’s Office, as Executive Director of the Indiana State Ethics Commission, and was the first female Inspector General for the state.

She ran for Marion County Prosecutor against Ryan Mears in 2022.

The only other candidate who has filed is former State Representative John Jacob.
