At their first meeting of 2026, the Indianapolis City-County Council elected new leadership and moved forward on data centers.

The council overwhelmingly elected Maggie Lewis as Council President, John Barth as Vice President and Jared Evans as Majority Leader.   Brian Mowery was renamed Minority leader.

Lewis outlined her priorities which included increase council visibility, move meetings into neighborhoods: take the budget process on the roa, focus on public safety with an emphasis on root causes of crime—not just enforcement.  and infrastructure improvements.

Shortly afterwards, the council also voted to move forward with a more indepth review of data centers.
