Ninth District Republican Chairman Jamey Noel has tendered his resignation from the position.
He sent an e-mail out Saturday morning to State Chairwoman Anne Hathaway, informing her that he was stepping down in 30 days as per party rules.
According to WHAS-TV the former Clark County Sherriff is accused of paying jail employees to run his personal errands and work on his property while on the clock and being paid with county funds. He faces numerous charges, including corrupt business practices, ghost employment, official misconduct, theft and tax evasion.
In addition, this week, a special prosecutor said in court that the state is prepared to bring charges against Noel’s wife, Misty Noel. It’s unclear what those charges could be or when she could be arrested.
Investigators are also scrutinizing Noel’s automobile collection, which includes 133 vehicles registered to the Utica Township Volunteer Fire Department and New Chapel EMS Association, which he runs. Several were “inconsistent” with a non-profit fire department and EMS business.
Earlier this month, it was revealed Noel fathered a child with a former county councilwoman Brittney Ferree. Documents say he made several child support payments with funds from the association’s funds.
Noel will vacate the position in 30 days once a replacement has been named.
He has not stepped down as Clark County chairman and has labelled the investigation as a witchhunt.
