After earlier stating that he would oppose the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., told the Times of Northwest Indiana editorial board that he will await an FBI investigation Judge Brett Kavanaugh before making a final decision.
On Friday morning, Donnelly released a statement saying that he would not vote for Kavanaugh
“My job as a Senator is to gather as much information as I can to make the best-informed decision. The allegations made against Judge Kavanaugh are disturbing and credible. In the interest of getting as much information as possible, I believe the allegations should be investigated by the FBI. “Unfortunately, despite having the time and opportunity to do so, Senator McConnell has refused to allow that FBI investigation. Even the American Bar Association, which has previously rated Judge Kavanaugh as ‘well qualified’ has called for an FBI investigation, where we could learn more information and other potential witnesses could be interviewed.”
However, in a meeting with the time editorial board Donnelly said, “The FBI would have to talk to the people considered witnesses, depending on how these claims come out so that we can find out as much information as possible to make better decisions. “As it is right now, without all this information, I don’t know how I vote yes without having what I need.”

U.S. Senator Todd Young says he still supports Kavanaugh, based on Thursday’s testimony. Republican challenger Mike Braun, as well as the Indiana Republican Party, have attacked Donnelly, saying he is siding with liberals in Washington as opposed to Hoosiers.
