As we celebrate 248 years since America told King George to take a hike, let’s remember what this day is really about: freedom, civic responsibility, and the ongoing struggle to form that more perfect union—even if sometimes it feels like we’re doing it with fireworks, duct tape, and a city-county council agenda that won’t die.

Here’s to the patriots who fought for liberty, the watchdogs who still defend it, and the everyday Hoosiers who prove democracy works best when the people show up, speak out, and stay informed.

Enjoy the BBQ, the parades, and yes, the debates. Let freedom ring—and maybe leave a few Roman candles to the professionals.

From all of us at Indy Politics: Happy Fourth of July.
