Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and the Indianapolis City-County Council were sworn in Monday.
Hogsett was sworn into his third term in office.
He said a priority for him would be improving education.
The Mayor cited statistics stating that more than 30 percent of Indianapolis third graders today do not read at grade level. Only 20 percent of Indianapolis eighth graders passed the ILearn math assessment. And less than half of Indy’s high school graduates enroll in college.
He also said the city’s fight against crime was going in the right direction, promised to fight for more road funding dollars from the state and protect a woman’s right to choose.
Hogsett was the first Mayor since William Hudnut to serve a third term.
