House Speaker Todd Huston and Senate President Pro Tempore Rod Bray have been re-elected to their respective leadership posts.
House Republicans re-elected Huston on Wednesday to serve a second term as House Speaker during a caucus in Indianapolis. Huston is expected to be confirmed by the full Indiana House of Representatives on Organization Day, the formal kickoff to the start of the legislative session, on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
“I’m humbled and honored to be selected to continue serving in this leadership position, and I’m excited about the future of our state,” Huston said. “We have an incredibly talented team, and we’re going to keep our focus on issues important to Hoosier families and businesses, and ensure Indiana continues to live within its means.”
House Republicans also re-elected State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) as Majority Caucus Chair, State Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) as Floor Leader and Caroline Spotts as House Clerk.
Senate Republican Caucus members voted to re-elect Bray as their choice for Senate President Pro Tempore. In accordance with Senate rules, the Democrat caucus will also weigh in on Bray’s selection during the legislature’s official Organization Day on Nov. 22. State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) will continue to serve in his role as Majority Floor Leader, and State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) will continue his role as Majority Caucus Chairman.
“It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as Pro Tem of this esteemed body,” Bray said. “This job would not be possible without the support of each of our talented senators, and I’m grateful to my fellow caucus members for again putting their trust in me. The 2023 session will have many challenges and opportunities as we look to improve our state for all Hoosiers, and as always, Senate Republicans will be committed to passing a balanced budget that funds our priorities while living within our means.”
