House Speaker Todd Huston defended House Bill 1032 on Friday, describing the mid-cycle redistricting measure as the product of a rigorous process supported by the Indiana Election Division and county officials.

Huston said he is confident the proposal is constitutional and consistent with recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings, noting that several other states have also undertaken redistricting efforts this year. He thanked Democratic lawmakers for their advocacy during debate but maintained his support for the bill, adding that he will stand behind members who vote for it.

Huston rejected suggestions of pressure from the White House, saying his position reflects broader national political dynamics. He also referenced consultations with several respected advisers and said he has grown increasingly comfortable with the national implications of the redistricting effort.
