In their weekly media news conferences the two top legislative leaders say allowing the State Board of Education to choose its own chairperson is about eliminating the dysfunction, not attacking Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz.
Both the House and Senate moved forward this week on bills that would allow the State Board of Education to pick its own Chair. Ritz and her supporters called the move a blatant power grab. House Speaker Brian Bosma and Senate President Pro Tempore David Long disagreed.
You can hear both Bosma and Long below.
The Speaker also touches on several other issues including education funding, Sunday alcohol sales and a proposed tax cut on manufacturing equipment. Long also discusses a proposed Religious Freedom bill which will be heard next week as well as the President’s proposal for free community college.
