State Representative Jim Lucas has agreed to enter into a plea agreement regarding OWI charges and leaving the scene of an accident.
Lucas was in an auto accident on May 30 in Jackson County. Around midnight, he crashed his vehicle on Interstate 65, just north of Seymour.
Under the agreement reached with the Jackson County prosecutor’s office, Lucas agrees to plead guilty to two misdemeanour charges, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
In exchange for the guilty plea, Lucas will serve a suspended sentence; 60 days for the OWI and 180 days for leaving the scene of an accident charge.
In addition, he will also serve the next year on probation.
He also agrees to make restitution to INDOT for the damages caused, an amount of at least $4,000.
Lucas also agrees to drug and alcohol testing while on probation.
By pleading guilty to misdemeanors, Lucas can keep his seat in the Indiana General Assembly.
