When it comes to dealing with Indianapolis’ crime issue, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears says a closer look needs to be taken with bail and home detention.
Mears made his comments Wednesday afternoon in a speech with the Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.
In his address, he said local stakeholders should come together to address the issue of bail, so violent offenders can stay behind bars and he’s hesitant to say that state lawmakers should get involved in Marion County’s bond process. With respect to ankle monitoring and home detention, Mears says we need to figure out exactly what our goals are with home detention and fewer people need to be on it.
You can hear Mears in the Leon-Tailored Audio above. He also discussed the County’s murder rate.
He begins about five minutes into the audio.
