Another Democrat has entered the race for the U.S. Senate.
Indianapolis City-County Councilor Keith Potts announced Thursday that he was running for the seat being vacated by Mike Braun, who is running for Governor.
Potts was elected in 2019.
In his news release, he stated, “We need to work with businesses, unions, and government to build a better future for all of Indiana: a future where everyone can get a good paying job, has access to affordable healthcare, and can count on a strong and stable social security so every American can retire with dignity.”
While on the Council, Potts says he focused on public safety and affordable housing.
If elected, Councillor Potts would be the first openly gay man elected to the US Senate.
Potts would face former State Rep. Marc Carmichael in the primary.
Several national political reports have rated the seat a solid R.
