Although he touts his acumen as a small business owner, in 2015, John Schmitz, one of the Republican candidates for Marion County GOP Chairman, filed for bankruptcy.
According to court filings, Schmitz filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. He had slightly more than $38,000 in assets and more than $2.1 million in liabilities.
Under Chapter 7, debts are eliminated without requiring repayment to creditors.
The bankruptcy was later discharged.
