Inclement weather has prompted Indiana legislative leaders to alter the General Assembly’s schedule for the week, delaying committee meetings and adjusting floor sessions in both chambers.

The Indiana Senate will convene for session at 1:30 p.m. Monday as scheduled, but all Senate committee meetings planned for Monday have been postponed until Tuesday at their originally scheduled times. Bills advancing out of those committees will receive same-day reprints and could be eligible for second reading on Wednesday, according to Senate communications officials.

In the House, all committee meetings and session scheduled for Monday have been canceled. House committees will meet Tuesday at their originally posted times and locations, and the House will convene for session at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to House Republican communications officials.

Legislative leaders cited travel concerns and road conditions across the state as the reason for the schedule changes. Winter weather can complicate travel for lawmakers, staff, and the public, many of whom commute to the Statehouse from across Indiana.

The General Assembly is in the middle of its regular session, with dozens of bills moving through the committee process ahead of key legislative deadlines later in the session. Committee hearings are often the primary venue for public testimony and stakeholder input.

While a one-day disruption is unlikely to significantly affect the overall legislative calendar, compressed schedules can create bottlenecks for bills nearing deadline dates. Legislative staff indicated the adjusted schedule is intended to minimize delays and keep the session on track.

Lawmakers are expected to resume normal operations later in the week as weather conditions improve.
