With five days to spare, Indiana lawmakers passed a budget, expanded gaming, approved a new deal that would keep the Pacers in Indianapolis and fund a new soccer stadium.
The budget provides more than $760 million in new funding for schools while freeing up $150 million in pension obligations that can be used for increasing teacher pay as well as increasing funding for school safety and teacher appreciation grants.
With respect to gaming, lawmakers approved legislation which transferred casinos from Gary near Lake Michigan to the I-80/94 Interstate as well Terre Haute, allowed for mobile sports betting on smartphones, live dealers and table games at the racinos in Anderson and Shelbyville and called for a $20 million transfer fee for the Gary casino moves.
