Both sides in the fight over Sunday alcohol sales are gearing up to do battle in the Indiana General Assembly next session.
At a news conference this morning at a Marsh in downtown Indianapolis a coalition of retailers and business groups say they will push for a bill to allow Sunday alcohol sales.
Meanwhile the package liquor stores said they will fight such a move,
Retail merchants say Sunday is one of the biggest grocery shopping days of the month and consumers should have the right to purchase alcohol on that day.
Meanwhile, liquor store owners say Sunday sales would put them at a competitive disadvantage since they have to follow rules and restrictions that grocery and big box stores don’t.
The incoming chairman of the House Public Policy Committee says he is keeping an open mind about Sunday sales legislation and wants to give it a fair hearing.
