Former 7th District Congressional candidate “Honest” Gabe Whitley pleaded guilty today in federal court to campaign finance fraud.

Whitley made false statements when he filed his campaign finance reports.

During the May 2024 primary, Whitley filed reports claiming he had raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions from donors who did not exist or never contributed to his campaign.

Whitley came in fifth place.

Whitley is scheduled to be sentenced later this Spring.

Under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, Whitley could serve up to five years in prison, be fined up to $250,000, and get up to three years of probation.

Whitley also faces felony state criminal charges as well for posting photos of Indy Politics publisher Abdul-Hakim Shabazz and encouraging violence against him.
