Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokta may have violated state law when he said during the debate that Democratic challenger Destiny Wells left the office because she did not get enough pay.
During the Fox 59/CBS 4 debate, when it came to office pay for attorneys, Rokita stated, “You quit because you didn’t get enough pay. “Other people stayed because they didn’t care about pay.”
Wells’ letter of resignation was in her personnel file.
While Wells did leave the office over a dispute regarding veteran pay, under state law, that information is considered confidential.
There are exceptions; however, it appears that a voluntary resignation might not be one of them, only when a negative personnel action, i.e., firing, has taken place, otherwise, that information is considered confidential.
Wells left the office in 2019.
