Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett says while 2016 was a record year for murders in the city, he says the increases from year to year have gotten much smaller.
Indianapolis saw 150 murders this year, a record number. However, the Mayor says the increases are smaller than when the city went from under 100 to nearly 130 in 2012.
Hogsett says the city is working on fighting crime by taking a holistic approach which includes addressing mental health and addiction, as well as more community-based policing.
