When it comes to the rising tide of non-fatal shootings, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears says it will take the community’s assistance if law enforcement is ever going to get the problem under control.
Both the number of non-fatal shootings and victims has increased dramatically over the past three years. In 2019, there were 198 non-fatal shootings and 233 victims between January 1 and June 18. This year there were 317 non-fatal shootings and 356 victims.
At a town hall meeting on the westside of Indianapolis, Mears told the audience improving trust between the community and law enforcement would go a long way to helping stem the rising tide of violence.
You can hear Mears in the Leon-Tailored Audio above. His comments run for approximately seven minutes.
So far this year there have been 110 murders, 23 more than last year at this time.
