The possibility of Secretary of State candidate Diego Morales committing voter fraud has apparently gotten the attention of Indiana State Police.
Indy Star Columnist James Briggs wrote a column on Morales voting in Plainfield in 2018 when he was a candidate for Congress in the 4th Congressional District, although he took a homestead deduction for the home he owned in Marion County.
Under Indiana law, a voter must vote from their primary residence, as indicated by where they get the homestead exemption.
Once the story broke, sources say Indiana State Police reached out to the Indiana Election Division requesting copies of the state’s residency statutes.
However, State Police tells Indy Politics there is no official investigation.
This process is similar to what happened to former Secretary of State Charlie White, who resigned and was convicted of voter fraud back in 2012,
Morales did not respond to inquiries from the Star regarding the discrepancy; however, he did answer an inquiry from Fox 59.
It stated…“The issue regarding my residency has been previously vetted in the media, and no wrongdoing was discovered then, and nothing new is being reported now. I followed all applicable state and federal election and property tax laws. This defamation and character assassination by replaying old news and attaching damaging headlines is reprehensible.”.
Morales has made election integrity a cornerstone of his campaign,
