On Organization Day, Indiana lawmakers took time to spell out their priorities for the 2024 Legislative session; a top priority for Statehouse Republicans ending the advancement of third graders who fail reading proficiency.

House Speaker Todd Huston and Senate President Pro Tem Rod Bray said ending “social promotion: for third grades who have not mastered reading proficency will be a priority.

That would likely happen by reducing the number of reasons a third grader could be promoted.

Republicans and Democrats spelled out their priorities.
