Now that South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg has thrown his hat in the ring for President, we thought we would share some polling information with you regarding Buttigieg’s standing here in Indiana.
When were polling the U.S. Senate race back in October, we also did some looking into how Governor Eric Holcomb was doing and how well known were some of his likely challengers in 2020; one of them was Buttigieg.
Here’s what we found out from our survey back then of more than 600 likely voters statewide
- Very Favorable – 5%
- Somewhat Favorable – 3%
- Somewhat Unfavorable – 1%
- Very Unfavorable – 4%
- No Opinion – 17%
- Never heard of him – 66%
To put this in perspective, Holcomb’s favorable/unfavorable ratings at the time were 61/22; 17 percent were undecided.
When it came to his fellow Democrats, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett’s statewide favorable/unfavorable ratings were 36/13; 27 percent had no opinion and 19 percent never heard of him. Former Lt. Governor candidate and state representative Christina Hale’s statewide favorable/unfavorable ratings were 12/3; 22 percent had no opinion and 58 percent never heard of her. And Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott ’s statewide favorable/unfavorable ratings were 8/3; 26 percent had no opinion and 58 percent never heard of him.
Our poll, conducted by Mason Strategies, was taken October 15-20 and had a margin of error of 3.9 percent.
