Indianapolis City-County Councilor Ron Gibson and his 8-year-old son escaped injury after what authorities and Gibson are describing as a targeted attack on his home early Monday morning.
In a statement released Monday afternoon, Gibson said that between approximately 12:45 a.m. and 12:50 a.m., an individual fired 13 rounds at the front door of his home and left a handwritten note on the doorstep that read: “No Data Centers.”
The note appears to directly reference the highly controversial data center project in Martindale-Brightwood, which Gibson has publicly supported and which recently received approval from the Metropolitan Development Commission.
“My 8-year-old son and I were not physically harmed, but we were awakened by the sound of gunfire,” Gibson said. He added that he immediately ran to his son to reassure him that he was safe.
Gibson noted that the bullets struck only steps away from the family dining room table, where his son had been playing with Legos the previous day.
“That reality is deeply unsettling,” Gibson said. “This was not just an attack on my home, but endangered my child and disrupted the safety of our entire neighborhood.”

IMPD responded immediately, and both the FBI and Department of Homeland Security were on scene as part of the investigation.
The shooting comes just days after a contentious public hearing and vote involving the proposed data center development in Martindale-Brightwood, a project that has drawn sharp neighborhood opposition and intense public debate.
In a statement released earlier Monday, City-County Council President Maggie A. Lewis condemned the attack as “an alarming and unacceptable escalation,” while the Republican caucus also issued a statement saying it was “outraged and disturbed” by the violence.
Gibson said the attack would not intimidate him.
“This will not deter me,” he said. “I will continue to serve the residents of this district with integrity and respect for all voices.”
He also thanked IMPD, the FBI, and Homeland Security for their response and said he is praying that justice is served.
The investigation remains ongoing.
