As first this Spring in the Cheat Sheet, Republican State Senator and Religious Freedom Restoration Act co-author, Scott Schneider has announced he is not running for re-election in 2016.
Schneider has represented Senate District 30, encompassing portions of Hamilton and Marion counties, since 2009.
In a news release issued early Saturday morning, Schneider said he wanted to focus on his family’s business which he says is growing.
Possible candidates to run for Schneider’s seat on the Republican side include attorney Tom Dakich and small business owner Tausha Phelps. Outgoing Democratic City-County Councilor John Barth has also been named as someone who may try to replace Schneider as well.
Schneider won re-election in 2012 over Democrat Tim Delaney by 928 votes.
