The Vice Chair of the State Board of Education is stepping down.

Sarah O’Brien, who was originally appointed by former Governor Mitch Daniels and later reappointed by Governor Mike Pence, informed her colleagues in an e-mail this evening.

O’Brien cited family reasons for the decision.  She is a fourth grade teacher in Avon.

O’Brien told her fellow Board members she believed she increased the quality of education for all Hoosier kids and thought the Board would continue to do so in her absence.

Her last day will be August 10.
