My name is Barcia Alejos, and I am a Double Blue Star Mom and proven businesswoman running for Marion County Recorder.  Being a Double Blue Star Mom is the reason I am running.  Being a proven businesswoman is the reason you should vote for me.

I raised all three of my children with values of God, family, and country.  When two of my sons went directly out of high school to serve their country when they were accepted into the US Naval Academy and West Point, I never expected that a few years later I would see buildings burn down and crime going up in my own beloved city of Indianapolis.  That’s when I knew that I could no longer stand on the sidelines. I needed to be in the game to change my country, just as my sons are doing.  I needed to be in the game to change my city.  I needed to be in the game to change the trajectory of everything going on in Marion County right now!

So, I asked myself how am I going to do that?  I am not from a political family.   But then I thought about my husband, who is an Air Force Veteran and a naturalized citizen who came as a child from Central America with his family to make Indianapolis their home.  He has realized his American dream through his success as an entrepreneur, and as a pillar of the local Latino community.  Then I thought of my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic where I became fluent in Spanish and used that to spread American principles such as entrepreneurship and working hard to build a better life for oneself and one’s family in teaching business concepts to those less fortunate.  When I came back from the Peace Corps, I met my husband, we married, raised our family, built our lives, and built our businesses based on these American Values.  I’ve been in business ever since those days, either managing or running businesses.

So fast forward to 2021 when it was suggested to me to consider running for a county office that needs someone with solid business experience.  I considered it and, I gravitated to the Marion County Recorder’s Office right away.  It is a constitutionally mandated office designed to protect citizens right to own and transact property.  I also learned that it is an open seat this year, which means the employees of the Marion County Recorder’s office will have a new boss January of 2023, and Marion County residents will have a new Recorder.  It DOES matter who your next Recorder is. Just imagine for a moment if you went to buy or sell a house or property and the transaction could not go through because the documents were either unavailable, not up to date, or inaccurate.  That’s not ok!   It interrupts your life and delays or even stops your hopes and dreams.

I am the competent candidate in this race.     With more than 30 years of experience in management, administration, and leadership along with a master’s degree in Business, I have managed hundreds of people throughout my career and developed them to improve productivity in their jobs. I am also able to offer something unique to this office.  I can speak, read, and write in Spanish at a very high level, which in a city as diverse as Indianapolis can be a significant thing to offer an office that should be serving all the residents of Marion County.

I’m Barcia Alejos and I’m asking for your vote because Competence Counts!
