State Senator Andy Zay (R-Huntington) announced today that he is exploring a bid for the IN-3 Congressional seat currently served by Rep. Jim Banks.
Rep. Banks recently announced he would seek the Republican nomination to replace outgoing U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-Indiana).
As Zay has talked with people throughout Northeast Indiana, he says has garnered a wide range of supporters. Supporters of Zay point to his conservative record at the
Statehouse. He has fought to balance budgets, defend 2nd amendment rights, and protect life.
“Hoosiers have been served well by Rep. Banks. It is imperative we continue fighting for Hoosier values and fiscal responsibility,” said Zay. “I am humbled by the support and encouragement from family, friends, and colleagues. However, a decision such as this cannot be made lightly and will require time, prayer, and reflection. For now, my focus will be representing the people of Senate District 17 during this legislative budget session,” said Zay.
Zay is the owner of Zay Leasing and Rentals. He and his wife, Cindy, have five children and two grandchildren.
Zay was elected State Senator in 2016. His tenure in the Senate has included serving as Chairman of the Senate Insurance & Financial Institutions Committee, as well as a member of the
Appropriations, Utilities, Education, Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Pension & Labor, and Commerce & Technology committees.
