Mike Schmuhl, Pete Buttigieg’s former presidential campaign manager, announced his candidacy for chair of the Indiana Democratic Party on Wednesday morning.

“We are at a turning point for both our party and our state,” said Schmuhl. “The Indiana Democratic Party needs a fresh vision and a strategic plan to start winning again to improve the lives of Hoosiers in every part and corner of our state.”

Schmuhl, 38, is a native of South Bend. In early 2019, Schmuhl was the first employee of and campaign manager for Pete for America, Buttigieg’s groundbreaking presidential campaign and the largest political campaign in Indiana history.

Schmuhl will be running on a ticket with Marion County Clerk Myla Eldridge. Eldridge was elected as the clerk of Marion County in 2014 and was reelected in 2018.
