Former Indianapolis City-County Councilor Jose Evans is officially getting into the race for Mayor.
He made the announcement today.
“I am officially announcing my run for Mayor of Indianapolis. Over the last few months, I have been talking to community leaders, party leaders, and Indianapolis residents. I have consistently heard there is a desire for change in Indianapolis. In the coming months, I look forward to speaking with the community about issues that matter to them and also my vision for Indianapolis. My formal announcement event will be held in January.”
Evans served on the Council from 2008 – 2016. He was elected as Democrat but switched to Republican in 2013.
He also authored the book, “Fear of a Black Republican“.
Evans says his priorities will be crime and education.
Evans will face a primary challenge from construction mason John Schmidt. Former Marion County GOP Chairman Jim Merritt has not decided whether he will run.
