Former Indiana BMV Commissioner Peter Lacy is taking a new job in Virginia.

Lacy has accepted a position as Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

His salary will be $185,000.

Lacy resigned abruptly from the BMV last month, even though he was originally slated to leave at the end of the month.

Lacy was appointed to head the  BMV in 2017.

Sources close to Lacy say the reason why left the Indiana BMV early was to prepare for the new job.

He starts his new position on June 1.
