A spokesman for Big Red Liquors says efforts by Rickers to sell cold beer at two of its southern Indiana gas station/restaurants violates the spirit and public policy of the state’s alcohol laws.
The Rickers convenience store chain has converted two of its gas stations in Columbus and Spencer into restaurants thereby allowing them to sell cold beer. Under Indiana law, gas stations, grocery and convenience stores cannot sell cold beer but restaurants and liquor stores can.
Matt Bell of Big Red Liquors says lawmakers never intended for gas stations to be able to sell cold beer and Rickers has done an “end run” around Indiana public policy.
You can hear Bell in the Leon-Tailored Audio above. The interview runs about nine minutes.
