While U.S. Senator Todd Young says Democrats are mostly responsible for the current government shutdown, he remains hopeful that lawmakers can work out an agreement.
The two sides failed to reach a deal before last night’s deadline. The measure failed 50-49. Young says Democrats’ desire to add legislation dealing with the children of illegal immigrants is the main stumbling block. He says that issue can be addressed without impacting other programs.
You can hear Young in the Leon-Tailored Audio above. It runs about 15 minutes.
Democrat U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly voted for the funding deal to keep the government open. His office put out a news release saying that he would donate his “shutdown” pay to charity.
