Despite what they may say or insinuate on the campaign trail, Todd Rokita and Luke Messer are not the biggest Trump supporters when it comes to Indiana’s Congressional delegation.
Don’t get us wrong, they rank pretty high, but the as far as being the biggest, not so much.
One could argue, the biggest Trump supporters in Indiana’s Congressional delegation are 5th District Congresswoman Susan Brooks and 8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon.
Say what? Yes, Brooks and Bucshon top the list, at least according to the FiveThirtyEight political blog. The folks at FiveThirtyEight have been tracking each member of Congress’ votes and tallied how often they vote with or against Donald Trump. Coming in third place was 2nd District Congresswoman Jackie Walorski.
The FiveThirtyEight looks at major votes on issues such as raising the debt ceiling and imposing sanctions on Russia to lesser-known issues such as removing the antitrust exemption for insurance providers or repealing a rule requiring some federal contractors to report labor violations.
When it was all said and done both Brooks and Buschon voted to support the Trump agenda 97.8 percent of the time. Rokita was with Trump 93.3 percent of the time, and Messer supported the Trump agenda 90.9 percent of the time, so Rokita can say he is a bigger Trump supporter than Messer and be factually accurate, even though it’s by 2.4 percentage points.
As expected both Congressmen Andre Carson and Pete Visclosky were in the teens when it came to Trump support, Carson was 11.9 percent, and Visclosky was 15.6 percent.
And U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly, who fancies himself a middle of the road Democrat, was right in the middle of the road, coming in at 47.9 percent.
A complete list of Congressional rankings is below as of 19 Sep 2017.
- Susan Brooks & Larry Bucshon – 97.8 percent
- Jackie Walorski – 95.6 percent.
- Trey Hollingsworth – 95 percent
