Former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard may run for Congress.

Ballard’s name is being circulated as a possible contender to run for the Congressional seat being vacated by incumbent Susan Brooks.

Brooks announced last week that she was not running for re-election and that has led to a list of at least two dozen possible replacements.

Sources close to the Mayor tell Indy Politics that unlike most of his possible challengers, Ballard has the name ID, fundraising ability and support to mount a credible campaign.

They also say the former Mayor’s political profile also fits the fifth district.

Ballard could not be reached at the time this post was written.

Ballard served as Indianapolis Mayor from 2008-2015.  He currently is on the staff of the University of Indianapolis.
