With less than two weeks to go before Election Day, the race between incumbent Democratic Congressman Andre Carson and Republican challenger Angela Grabovsky is heating up.

Indiana Democrats say Grabovsky is not registered to vote in the 7th District, but instead is a Hamilton County resident who voted there in the May primary.

“Loopholes in election law only require candidates for U.S. Congress to live in the state where they seek office, permitting them to potentially live hundreds of miles away from the residents they hope to serve. In addition, while individuals are normally subject to caps on how much they can donate to a candidate, those same rules do not exist when a candidate wants to donate to themself.  Mrs. Grabovsky has donated over $300,000 to her campaign using personal funds,” said IDP spokesman Drew Anderson.   “It is laughable to think that a person who lives outside of Indianapolis could possibly understand the needs of its residents,” said Drew Anderson, communications director for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Mrs. Grabovsky makes enough money in her Indianapolis job to self-fund her campaign – and then takes her income outside of the county. This is incredibly disrespectful to the many hardworking residents who call Indianapolis home, and it does not represent Indianapolis values.”

Grabovsky lives in Carmel.  And the law does not require an individual running for Congress to live in the district.  They must live in the state, but not the district.

In an interview with Indy Politics Thursday morning, Grabovsky says her and husband’s ties to the 7th, more than make up for the fact she resides in Hamilton County.   You can hear Grabovsky’s comments in the Leon-Tailored Audio above.
