Numerous national publications are reporting tonight that South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is dropping out of the race for President.
According to the Hill,
Pete Buttigieg is reportedly dropping his presidential bid after a disappointing showing in South Carolina, ending a meteoric rise that saw the once-obscure former mayor of South Bend, Ind., beat out several bigger-name rivals in the race for the Democratic nomination. The New York Times and other media outlets reported Buttigieg is planning to announce his decision to drop out shortly.
Buttigieg also had issues here in Indiana. A pre-Super Tuesday analysis by Nate Silver showed Buttigieg coming in 3rd in the Indiana May primary after Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden.
According to Silver’s analysis, Sanders is expected to get 34% of the vote, Joe Biden – 28%; Pete Buttigieg – 17% and Mike Bloomberg – 13%; and Elizabeth Warren – 4%.
