David Shelton, the Clerk of Knox County, plans to enter the race for Secretary of State on Wednesday.

Shelton tells Indy Politics there needs to be more leadership coming from the Secretary of State’s office to help county clerks.

If elected, he says he would create a boot camp for new county clerks to help them run elections,   He also says he would work to fix voting irregularities when individuals sign up for a driver’s license with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and standardize poll worker training across the state.

Shelton was first elected clerk in 2018.

He plans to file for the office tomorrow at State party headquarters.

He would face Incumbent Holli Sullivan and challenger Diego Morales.

Republicans will choose their candidate for Secretary of State at their convention in June.
