Republican Mayoral candidate Jefferson Shreve says if he is elected, he will donate his salary to Animal Care Services.
Shreve made the announcement at the new site for the proposed IACS shelter at N. Sherman Dr. and E. Michigan St.
Shreve said animal welfare was a “personal passion” and he said incumbent Mayor Joe Hogsett has shown a lack of leadership when it comes to animal care.
In addition to donating his salary, Shreve also stated the following
- He would work towards a no-kill shelter.
- Build a new shelter.
- Raise IACS salaries and hire additional veterinarians.
- Create an animal advisory commission.
You can hear Shreve in the Leon-Tailored Audio above. It runs under 25 minutes.
On Monday, Mayor Joe Hogsett highlighted measures to enhance services and care at IACS; including increasing collaboration with local and regional partners to address issues at multiple points in the pipeline, increasing staff capacity, and continuing to expand innovative adoption practices.
