The Superintendent of Yorktown Schools is entering the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Jennifer McCormick announced this morning that she is running for the post currently held by Democrat Glenda Ritz.
McCormick says she would work to make the Department of Education a partner with schools, teachers, students and parents as well the Indiana Legislature and Governor.
She said the DOE has not communicated well with schools and should be a resource for Indiana schools, pointing to the fact that schools did not get the materials they needed from the Department for the next ISTEP test until last month.
She also touted her experience as a teacher in both general and special education as well in leadership positions in the district.
You can hear McCormick’s comments in the Leon-Tailored Audio above. They run under 9 minutes.
