A few milestones stack up on us this week here at Indy Politics.

Fifteen years ago this month, we launched this thing. I had just been shown the door at WXNT and figured I’d put something up online until a real job came along. The real job never came, but the day’s still young.

This week is also 17 years with the Lovely Mrs. Shabazz, who has put up with more deadlines, phone calls at dinner and Statehouse gossip than any one person should have to.

And 22 years ago, I pulled into Indianapolis for what was supposed to be a two-year stop. The plan was to head back to Illinois, practice law, teach, do talk radio and marry the woman I was dating. I got three out of four, just not in the state I expected and not with the woman I expected. Sometimes the detour is the road.

Thanks for the support, the encouragement and the occasional well-earned criticism.

Still the most fun I’ve ever had with my clothes on and standing up.
