House Speaker Brian Bosma says his legislative priorities this session will not include a proposed bill that charge rape victims with murder if they get an abortion, as proposed by one lawmaker.
State Representative Curt Nisly of Goshen says he will introduce legislation that could criminalize abortions in all cases, including rape incest and the life and health of the mother. Nisly acknowledges a woman seeking an abortion could be charged with murder under his proposal.
Speaking to the media today, Bosma said the bill was not on his list of priorities and said he will focus on legislation that will not distract lawmakers from addressing road funding, opioid abuse, and student assessments.
