For the first time in decades the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police 86 is taking a pass, for now, on any endorsements in the mayor’s race, saying neither candidate has earned it.

The FOP says both incumbent Democrat Joe Hogsett and Republican challenger Jefferson Shreve sat with the FOP for a couple of hours, but neither candidate earned their approval.

FOP 86 President Rick Snyder says Hogsett’s record on crime and Shreve’s fell short with officer pay, equipment and work/life balance.   He also criticized both Shreve and Hogsett’s gun control proposals.

Snyder says there is still time for the candidates to win the union’s endorsement.

The FOP endorsed eight Republican council candidates and four Democrats.

You can hear Snyder in the Leon-Tailored Audio above.

It runs for about 18 minutes.
