A possible contender for Indiana’s 6th Congressional District is taking a pass to make way for a Greg Pence run.

Henry County Council President Nate LaMar sent out an e-mail Friday telling his fellow Republicans he was not getting in the race for the 6th due to Pence’s “impending entry” into the primary.

LaMar says instead he will focus his attention on the Indiana State Senate and the seat being vacated by Dennis Eckerty.  Pence has not officially said he is running for the seat.

Below is the e-mail LaMar sent out this past Friday…

Dear 6th CD County and District GOP Central Committee members,
With the impending entry of Greg Pence into the 6th Congressional District Republican primary, it is prudent that I stand-down from my exploratory campaign.  Thankfully, this almost coincides with the very recent retirement announcement of my State Senator, Doug Eckerty.  Therefore, as encouraged by several of you, I am now seriously considering the 26th State Senate district (rural portions of Delaware, Henry, and Madison Counties), for which I received employer permission yesterday.  In addition, my wife, Kris, thinks this could be more in God’s timing.
The past seven months made for a learning experience, which actually has been quite enjoyable, thanks to many of you, who made me feel right at home in your counties!  I am especially thankful to my older daughter, Elizabeth, who was often my driver.  Although this allowed her to chip-away at her driver’s license requirement, she truly loves politics, for which she has the personality.  Team LaMar had a presence at all 16 Lincoln Days (thus far), with me personally attending 13.  No other candidate came close to such attendance!  Of the 6th CD counties with GOP booths at their county fairs, I made it to all but four.  Of those four, our brochures were available at three.  Finally, for all their help, I owe special thank you’s to Mark C. Smith and to Mark Wynn, as our exploratory campaign covered the 6th CD, literally “from Muncie to Madison.”
As I was the second-youngest in the 6th CD field, I am thankful that time is on my side.  To quote fellow West Pointer, General Douglas MacArthur, “I shall return!”
Most sincerely,

Nate LaMar
