A new poll by the American Cancer Society shows an overwhelming number of Hoosiers support raising the state’s tobacco tax as a way to pay for public health programs.

The survey of 1,000 Hoosiers, taken December 11-17,  showed the following…

  • 64% of Indiana voters support a $2.00 per pack cigarette tax increase with a parallel tax on other tobacco
    products.
  •  71% say that e-cigarettes should be treated the same as cigarettes when it comes to policies including
    taxation.
  •  71% of those surveyed think an important reason to support higher tobacco taxes in Indiana is that revenue
from increases in tobacco taxes could be used for the Tobacco Control Program.
  • 77% of voters agree higher tobacco prices can serve as a preventative measure for teens and young adults.
